A#5: Multimedia Writing
Purpose: Up until this point in the semester we have been working with a variety of texts. This assignment will allow you to compose in a medium that combines both text and multimedia aspects. At this time in history technological means of disseminating information and opinion have risen to prominence. Texts such as blogs, YouTube videos, digital photographs, and graphic novels have become important and influential to how we view and understand our world. Familiarity with these types of texts and the technology that is used to create them will provide you with knowledge and skills that are increasingly important to have.
Task: For this assignment you will use a multimedia form of composition to document some aspect of your reality. What you chose to document might be an issue that is important to how you view yourself and/or your world, an aspect of your life (a hobby, interest, future goal, activity) that is important to you, or a person or place that has greatly influenced your life. The important thing is to choose something that gives insight into your personal reality. We will be sharing what we produce with the class so please be sure to choose something that is appropriate for a classroom audience.
Length Requirements: Here are general requirements for compositions in several possible mediums. I am open to mediums other than these (a PowerPoint presentation, a piece of visual art with an artist’s statement, etc.), provided they combine both text and technological/visual elements. If you have an idea that is not listed here, please come discuss it with me and we will determine what will be required.
– Photographic essays must have a minimum of 10 images and 10 captions. Captions must total roughly 650 words total minimum.
– Graphic Novellas must have a minimum of 14 panels, and these must be scanned and printed
– Blogs must be 650-750 words (3-4 word processor pages long) and must have at least 5 posts.
Attention should be paid to the visual aspects of the blog and the blog must incorporate at
least 2 images in the posts.
– Short films must have a script of 500 to 650 words and be at least 3 minutes long. The film
should incorporate at least 3 different camera angles as well as a piece of music.
Due Dates:
12/1: Project due in class, presentations begin.
